In May 2016, DOU was held about universities in which IT experts study or studied. Such surveys were conducted and, but this year we decided to make an assessment more complete and comprehensive.

As we thought

To build a rating was chosen evaluation of readiness to recommend its faculty or department as a place of learning. We used this particular indicator, because it is less dependent on the subjective life circumstances of the respondent (for example, nostalgia for adolescence or displeasure insufficient efforts attached during training). In addition, since the recommendation is done "for the future", the respondent can take into account not only personal experience Learning, but also any information about the university received after the release - in this way we get a more objective assessment.

results

The lowest estimates were obtained (5.7) and (4.7).

The rest of the universities received average estimates - not higher and not lower than the average level.

Interestingly, the rating leads the universities of a common profile (with the exception of Khnure). While specialized technical universities, such as KPI, Lviv Polytechnic, ONPU, Hai, KPI, DonNTU received average estimates, and VNTU and NAU even below average.

In addition to high estimates, there are several separate highly appreciated faculties in medium universities.

This is faculty applied mathematics B (estimate 7.3), as well as several faculties: Physico-Technical Institute (PTI) - 7.4 points, Faculty of Applied Mathematics (FPM) - 7.3 points, Institute of Applied Systemic Analysis (IPSA) - 7.0 points .

KPI, being the largest university for IT education (a quarter of respondents learn or studied in this university), received average estimates. The main reason is the scatter in estimates of different faculties. As opposed to the aforementioned stronger faculties (FTI, FPM, IPSA), FVT, TEF and FEL, received secondary estimates () are also analyzed in the study.

To view data on all universities, use the widget below or table with all data. Full data array can be downloaded on GitHub.

Green highlighted values \u200b\u200babove average throughout the sample, orange - Below average throughout the sample. Values \u200b\u200bin cells without pouring does not differ from the middle sample (the level of significance is 90%).

Cells with numbers show average rating On a scale from 1 to 10, with% - a share of all respondents of a particular university / faculty.

  • the relevance of the knowledge provided to work in IT - 4.1;
  • the financial efficiency of the university (the optimality of attracting and distributing resources) is 4.2.

The inactivity of knowledge is displayed in the assessments of the work of teachers. If the understanding of the explanation and supply of the material is estimated by an average of 6.1, then practical experience Applications and ability to explain how to apply knowledge in practice is assessed worse - by 5.2.

Of the technologies listed in the questionnaire, the databases are taught most often in universities (81% of respondents have been studied), C ++ (74%) and C (60%). Java in the university studied 44% of respondents, JavaScript - 30%, QA - 15%.

Hope flashing: collaboration of universities and IT companies

32% of respondents believe that their university cooperates quite actively with IT companies in employment.

Details of this data on cooperation with IT companies in universities can be viewed.

There are three Faculties of the KPI, which are rated sufficiently high: this is the Physics and Technology Institute (FTI), the Faculty of Applied Mathematics (FPM) and the Institute of Applied Systemic Analysis (IPSA).

They were appreciated above average ready to recommend, and in many ways these faculties are similar to each other: for example, assessed as prestigious, difficult to teach and giving up-to-date and useful knowledge and professional connections. The level of corruption at these faculties is below average.

At the same time respondents with PTI More often consider schools interesting and higher, the work of the administration is assessed, namely the orientation for students' interests.

In addition to these three faculties, the study also highlighted the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering (FIVT), the Heat and Power Plant (TEF) and the Faculty of Electronics (FEL).

W. FVT. Good assessments of the image and the complexity of learning. The level of corruption on the FVT is below average (27% VS 39% on average by sample), the faculty is actively cooperating with IT companies in the field of employment. Methodology of conducting a survey

For analysis, the questionnaires of respondents with IT experience and learning experience in Ukrainian universities were selected (the availability of a diploma is optional).

A total of 3081 questionnaire was collected. For analysis, we selected universities and individual faculties for which 40 and more questionnaires were collected.

Description of the sample

38% of respondents - graduates 2011-2015, and 29% still learn:

More than half of the respondents have a master's degree or specialist:

67% of respondents work by developers, another 11% are occupied in QA:

Most IT professionals began to work in IT even during training at the university, mainly by 3-4 courses:

The data are collected from the unified state base of education. The rating lists are not included by the highest military educational institutions (educational institutions with specific training conditions) and units of military educational institutions.
