Shumerlya (Chuvash. Mrle) is a city in the Chuvash Republic of the Russian Federation, the administrative center of the Shumerlinsky urban district and the Shumerlinsky district (it is not included in the Shumerlinsky district of Shumerlya).

In 1916, during the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway, the Shumerlya railway station was created, named after the nearby Chuvash village of Shumerlya. Until July 7, 1924, the village at the Shumerlya railway station was part of the Nizhny Novgorod province, in 1930 it was transformed into a working village, in 1937 - into a city.

Population

The population in the city as of January 1, 1999 is 41 thousand people. (in 1959 - 30.2 thousand, in 1979 - 37.3 thousand, in 1989 - 41.9 thousand people). Representatives of different nationalities live, including 68% - Russians, 24% - Chuvash, as well as Mordovians, Tatars, Ukrainians. In 2009, the population was 33.7 thousand inhabitants.

Farm

The presence of significant forest resources in the region and a favorable geographical position led to the emergence of woodworking enterprises, but, due to the depletion of its own raw materials, only the timber processing plant survived. The leading branch of the city's industry is mechanical engineering (the Shumerlinsky plant of vans and the Shumerlinsky plant of specialized vehicles, which produce unified vans, cars with special bodies: a canteen car, an ambulance car, etc.). There are light industry enterprises (a leather haberdashery factory, a garment factory), food industry enterprises (a bakery, a creamery, a meat processing plant, and the Lesnoy food processing plant).

Further development of the city is associated with the deepening of machine-building specialization and the availability of convenient transport routes leading to Sumerlya on the all-Russian market.

2008 The volume of shipped goods of own production, works and services performed on their own in the mining, processing industries and distribution of electricity, gas and water amounted to 4534.3 million rubles.

    History reference

The city was founded in 1916. The territory on which the city arose was occupied by a dense forest, lakes, swamps and deep ravines. Nearby, in two or three kilometers, the Sura River flowed. And nearby was a village called + .m. rle. Hence the name of the city appeared.

Old railway station The station of the builders "chugunka" was surrounded by dense, almost untouched forest. Pines and century-old oaks prevailed among the forest. Our ancestors used oak in shipbuilding. Even Peter I himself sent messengers to Chuvashia for oak and pine to build his fleet. The centuries-old oaks in five girths were cut with an ax (there was no saw yet), they were dragged by horse to Sura, and then sent by rail to Moscow.

A railway was built through the Sursk jungle and swamps Moscow-Kazan... The need arose for a small station, around which the first buildings began to appear.

Railway laying Arzamas-Kanash was conducted during the difficult years of the First World War for Russia, and the road straightened the path from Moscow to Kazan and further to the industrial Urals. So, in the forests surrounding the Sura, a small station village appeared not far from its right bank Sumerlya.

The forest is that wealth, that gift of nature, to which our city owes its birth. In the 80s of the 19th century, many rare animals were found in the forests. The swamps were inhabited by ducks and geese. Beavers lived in whole settlements along the banks of the Sura. Earlier this place was called "Bober" pier. Fur-bearing animals were found: marten, ermine, mink and others. From poultry: swan, bustard, ptarmigan, capercaillie, black grouse, hazel grouse. Elks, bears, hares, wolves and other animals also lived. A rare fish, the sterlet, was found in Sura, for which the Moscow princes and tsars equipped their people.

In 1925 there were about 250 inhabitants. On January 1, 1927, there were 405 inhabitants in Sumerla. In 1930, Shumerlya was classified as a workers' settlement with a population of 2309 people. In those years, there were only 200 households. And since 1937, the working village of Shumerlya was transformed into a city. By that time, 15 thousand people lived in the city. Today Sumerlya is a city with a permanent population of 33,952 people (data as of January 1, 2008).

Late 1920s the construction of a large plant for the production of tanning extract, which received the name "Bolshevik", began. To provide the construction site with labor, a number of regions of Chuvashia were attached to it, and in 1930 the plant produced its first products. Former peasants became workers. The station settlement has grown, utilities, health care, education and culture institutions have appeared in it. The next construction site was a woodworking plant, which began to take shape even with the creation of a tanning-extract production and the expansion of the village. In 1937 the settlement was transformed into a city. It already had almost 15 thousand inhabitants. At the same time, the process of forming national cadres was underway. By 1940, in Sumerla, they accounted for 40% of skilled workers.

During the Great Patriotic War the woodworking plant has mastered the manufacture of wooden aircraft parts. In 1943, the construction of a combine parts plant began here. It ended in the victorious 1945. The energy of the city was provided by the Sumerlinskoe peat enterprise.

Immediately after the war, it was necessary to improve people's lives. A furniture factory was established in Shumerla on the basis of a woodworking plant. By the end of the 1950s, the city's population had doubled against the pre-war level. At the same time, the industry of the young city is developing. A complex of vans is being built here, then a special car plant, a piano manufacturing factory. The construction of city enterprises, residential buildings and institutions is provided by a brick factory.

Light industry also developed in the city. A leather haberdashery factory, a branch of the Chuvash sewing production association "Rassvet", a sportswear factory were built. A natural continuation and development of the work of cabinetmakers and the traditions of folk art was the creation of an artistic woodcarving workshop in Sumerl. The development of vocational education in Sumerla is also associated with wood. There is a branch of the Semenovsky (Semyonov, Nizhny Novgorod region) technical school for mechanical processing of wood.

At the same time, enterprises for the processing of agricultural products appeared in Shumerla, which became a regional center: a creamery, a meat-packing plant, and a poultry plant.
Has become Sumerlya and a transport hub. A pier was added to the railway station, and then the highway Nizhny Novgorod - Ulyanovsk passed near the city.
And in 2005 the old railway station was reconstructed.

The connection of the young city with the forest is felt on its streets. From the side of the Sura, the forests come close to the city, separate magnificent groups of pine trees rise between the houses. Many old buildings, one-story, wooden, have also survived. New brick buildings are interspersed with old ones and particles of forest, creating a unique look of Sumerli.

Compatriots have not forgotten the name of the former head of the city government, and one of the streets bears his name. Urukov Vitaly Ivanovich.(08.08.1919, Simbirsk - 29.01.1945, Poznan region, Poland). Fulfilling the order, the Urukovites fought all night under the pouring rain and cold gusty wind to the canal. And so the crossing began. Heavy enemy fire scattered many hastily made rafts, and our soldiers found themselves in the icy water. With great difficulty and with heavy losses, the battalion crossed the channel and in a bloody attack took possession of an important piece of land that would decide the outcome of a major operation. In one of the battles he was seriously wounded. This wound was the fourth in a row and turned out to be fatal. He was buried near the Polish village of Ivno Poznań Voivodeship. He began his studies in the city of Murom, then studied at the secondary school №2 in Shumerli, in the 9th grade - in Sergach, in the 10th grade - in the town of Chernushka, Perm region. He studied excellently and finished school with a Certificate of Merit. Ivan Dmitrievich and Varvara Vasilievna Frantsev had 10 children. Eugene was born sixth. It was a friendly, hard-working family, where accuracy, honesty, and diligence were appreciated above all. In 1940, Eugene entered the Naval Aviation School and, after graduating from it, became a torpedo pilot of the 9th Guards Aviation Regiment in the Northern Fleet. The main task for pilots is to search for and destroy enemy ships in the Barents Sea. To direct the torpedo exactly at the target, it was necessary to fly the plane at an altitude of 20-25 meters from the surface of the water, which meant being shot at point-blank range from German ships or fighter planes. Frantsev's crew fought bravely. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 19, 1944, for the sinking of two submarines, a tanker, a motorboat, three transports with fuel and for the courage and courage of the guards shown at the same time, Senior Lieutenant Yevgeny Ivanovich Frantsev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The waves of the Arctic Ocean will never reveal the secret of the last battle of the famous hero. He died twenty-two years. But his combat experience is being studied and passed on to young pilots of naval aviation. Evgeny Frantsev is entered forever in the lists of the military unit where he served. In the town of Chernushka, near school # 80, a monument to the hero was erected. On the wall of the school building No. 3 in Shumerlya there is a memorial plaque with the inscription that Evgeny Frantsev studied here. He will forever remain in the memory of people, in our memory. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, and medals. A street in the city of Sumerl is named after him. ... On the night of July 29-30, 1944, an anti-tank fighter platoon of Lieutenant Fyodor Chernov, as part of the regiment's strike group, under fierce enemy fire, crossed the Vistula north of the village of Kazimierz and established itself on the western bank. In the morning, under cover of artillery, 13 tanks and a large subdivision of fascist machine gunners moved to the positions occupied by Chernov's platoon. After the very first well-aimed shots of our armor-piercing gunners, first one, then another tank blazed up with a smoky orange flame. Within a matter of minutes, seven steel monsters were destroyed, the rest hastily retreated. No sooner had the tanks disappeared than the fascist submachine gunners, lying in the grass, desperately rushed to the platoon's firing position. But our fighters did not flinch, forced them to retreat. About fifty enemy soldiers were killed. An hour later, the Nazis launched a second, and then a third, fourth attack ... In just a day, the enemy attacked Chernov's platoon eight times. But all attacks were repulsed. For three days, thick clouds of hot smoke and dust stood over the position of the Soviet armor-piercing gunners, guns were constantly beating, mortars of the enemy were hooting. It seemed that nothing would be left on the tiny bridgehead. But our soldiers held the line until the arrival of reinforcements. In these battles, the platoon of F.N. Chernov knocked out 16 tanks, destroyed 12 machine-gun points and more than 200 Nazi soldiers and officers. The city of Sumerlya in Chuvashia

Sumerlya recently celebrated its first centenary. Many interesting articles were written by the holiday date: some talked about their school, where they studied as a child, some talked about their beloved teacher, class teacher, about the musicians who played on the dance floor, about the forgotten districts of the city.

These are great articles. Before us opened not only unknown pages of history, but we learned about another city that lived, boiled, developed, amazed with enthusiasm and love of life.

The festive events are over, the city continues to live its everyday life. But sometimes I really want to look into the past and remember how families lived in those years, as it was then ...

The city flourished during the so-called "Brezhnev stagnation".

How different the inhabitants of Sumerli of those years were from us, who are now living! I want to tell you about my street, where I was born and raised, and about its inhabitants. This is Williams Street, it is located next to the main entrance to the Sosnyachok health camp.

At that time they knew how to be friends! My parents, Anna Vasilievna and Viktor Ivanovich Korotkov, were friends with their neighbors all their lives: Lyudmila Petrovna and Viktor Mikhailovich Antonov, Polina Afanasyevna and Alexander Ilyich Anisimov, Valentina Grigorievna and Vasily Kharisanovich Vasiliev.

    The families were very ordinary.

Vasily Kharisanovich worked as a driver in the interkolkhoz construction, and Valentina Grigorievna - at a machine-building plant. Their friends were Evdokia Nikolaevna and Yuri Petrovich Shcherbakov, Stanislav Nikitich and Zoya Matveevna Ishmuratov. The Shcherbakovs lived far away on Palana. Evdokia Nikolaevna, and for me just aunt Dusya, worked as a medical assistant, uncle Yura - at a machine-building plant.

Whatever happened, dad would say: "Anya, call Soul" (that was how they called Aunt Dusya so affectionately). And, indeed, the Shcherbakovs were in a hurry to help. Zoya Matveevna Ishmuratova worked as a therapist in a regional hospital. An excellent doctor, a sincere person and a true friend. In any weather she hurried to help the sick.

Lyudmila Petrovna Antonova worked as an accountant in Agricultural machinery, Viktor Mikhailovich - as an electrician in the bridge construction department. Aunt Lucy is an amazing person, intelligent, well-read, straightforward, absolutely not greedy. She always saw the good in people.

In my memories, his workmates stand up: Kechesov, Filyanin, Chekushin, who, laughing, called me a kid and made fun of black eyes.

Polina Afanasyevna Anisimova worked as a kindergarten teacher. It was a real actress. How she knew how to transform! My favorite pastime in her performance was playing "bear". It was scary and at the same time terribly funny when instead of Polina Afanasyevna there was a bear - just a coat inside out in her hands - which was trying to catch up with a little laughing girl.

    How did they live? Differently.

Of course, it was a difficult time. In our country, there are no easy periods at all. It was difficult to get food, furniture, but everyone helped each other and knew how to relax and have fun. My parents, together with the Shcherbakovs, went skiing and even ice skating. Crown, "Pine" ... There was no track that would not have obeyed my dad. In my recollections, this is a strong and decisive person.

All together - the Antonovs, Anisimovs, Vasilievs, my parents - gathered and went to the forest to rest, then the now fashionable word "picnic" was still unknown. The most amazing thing is that they were completely different people: the Ishmuratovs are very intelligent, cultured, the Antonovs are Komsomol members by nature, my parents are ordinary people from the countryside. But all of them were bound by the friendship that they carried through their whole lives. They all tackled any problem together, and the grief receded, the trouble went away.

In winter, they not only went to visit, celebrated holidays together, went skiing, but also went to the cinema.

In winter, the health camp turned into a sanatorium for the workers of the machine-building plant, where the entrance was open to other townspeople. In the evening, several times a week, a cinema worked on its territory, where residents of our street came to watch films.

In the summer they liked to relax at the best "world resort", on the "dam". Now this abandoned place comes to life only on Epiphany, but then the Statuevsky pond was a favorite resting place not only for residents of our street, but for the entire city. Then the pond was distinguished by a fair depth, as dad said, “you can't reach the bottom with handles,” and cleanliness, although a lot of people came to rest then.

The simple day of light is gone, as many people are gone.

Alexander Ilyich Anisimov is no longer alive, my father Viktor Ivanovich Korotkov, Stanislav Nikitich Ishmuratov, Vasily Kharisanovich Vasiliev are no longer alive, my second mother recently passed away, my mother's best friend Lyudmila Petrovna Antonova. But there were memories, people with whom they worked.

Gone is one era, another has come.

New generations are now living. I hope that friendship will be born and live among young, active people - such as it was on our street. A lifelong friendship.

Shumerlya is a city in the Chuvash Republic, the administrative center of the Shumerlinsky region. It is located 110 km from the capital of the Chuvash Republic, Cheboksary, on the banks of the Sura River.

Initially, the territory was occupied by dense forest, lakes, swamps and ravines. Beavers lived along the banks of the Sura River (formerly this place was called the Bober pier), the swamps were inhabited by ducks and geese.

In 1916, during the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway, the Shumerlya railway station was built, named after the nearest village. The station consisted of a station and station buildings; for a long time, the only inhabitants of the village, consisting of several wooden houses, were only the families of the station's service personnel. Then private houses began to appear, but there were no streets as such in the village (instead of them there were houses of the "first line", "second line", "third line").

Until July 7, 1924, the village of the Shumerlya railway station was part of the Nizhny Novgorod province. Forests grew around, so a woodworking plant became one of the first enterprises in Shumerli. In the late 1920s. the construction of a large plant for the production of Bolshevik tanning extract began. To provide the construction site with labor, a number of regions of Chuvashia were attached to it.

In 1930, Shumerlya received the status of a workers' settlement, and on June 23, 1937 - a city.

By the beginning of the 1939-1940 academic year, there were 4 schools in the city - these are schools No. 1,2,3, and 4. By the end of 1950, the city already had a hospital, a maternity hospital, and a polyclinic. In the 50s, an evening technical school, a branch of the Marposad Forestry College, began its work. In 1958, a meat processing plant was established.

Shumerlya occupies a favorable geographical position - it is located on the Moscow-Arzamas-Kazan railway, there is a developed road network with the capital of Chuvashia, as well as with the cities of Kanash, Alatyr and Yadrin.

As of January 1, 2016, 29 954 people live in the city. (in terms of population, the city was on the 506th place out of 1112 cities in the Russian Federation).

Among the noisy oak forests and pine forests, on the banks of the third largest tributary of the Volga, there is a small and beautiful city of Shumerlya. Sura is navigable in these places: downstream is the Chuvash city of Yadrin, higher - Alatyr. Once there was a grain route, later the river became floatable. The forest was driven from cutting areas from the depths of the Surye region along tributaries especially close to the Sumerla river. Kira, sometimes completely choked with a moraine forest. Sura was also famous for its fish, most of all for its sterlet.

The construction of the Arzamas-Kanash railway was carried out during the difficult years of the First World War for Russia, and the road straightened the path from Moscow to Kazan and further to the industrial Urals. So, in the forests surrounding the Sura, a small station village of Shumerlya appeared not far from its right bank. In 1920 there were 500 inhabitants in the village.

In the late 1920s. the construction of a large plant for the production of tanning extract, which received the name "Bolshevik", began. During the Great Patriotic War, the woodworking plant mastered the manufacture of wooden aircraft parts.

By the end of the 1950s. the number of residents of the city has doubled against the pre-war level. At the same time, the industry of the young city is developing. A complex of vans is being built here, then a special car plant, a piano manufacturing factory. The construction of city enterprises, residential buildings and institutions is provided by a brick factory.

By the end of 1950, the city already had a bathhouse and a network of hairdressing salons. There is a hospital, an infectious diseases department, a maternity hospital, a polyclinic and a railway outpatient clinic for medical care of the population. From cultural and educational institutions in the city there are two clubs - the combine and the plant "Bolshevik". A new RDK building and two stadiums have been rebuilt. There is a radio station. A branch of the Semenovsky (Semyonov, Nizhny Novgorod region) technical school for mechanical processing of wood worked here.

At the same time, enterprises for the processing of agricultural products appeared in Shumerla, which became a regional center: a creamery, a meat-packing plant, and a poultry plant.

In 1959, a new building of the infectious diseases department of the district hospital, a hotel, a boarding school, and the House of Pioneers were commissioned. Drilling work has begun to find water for the city water supply system.

The biography of the city, full of great events, marked a qualitatively new stage in the development of its economy and culture. The very appearance of Sumerli was noticeably changing.

In 2005, the old railway was reconstructed. railway station.

Sumerla today is a young developing city. And so that skeptics do not speak about its provincial unpromising - the city has a future, which is being built every day by beautiful people, proudly bearing the common name "Sumerlin".

Among the noisy oak forests and pine forests, on the banks of the third largest tributary of the Volga, there is a small and beautiful city of Shumerlya. The oldest settlements near the city are the village of Shumerlya, which gave its name first to the railway station, the village, and then to the city, and the village of Myslets.

The city is located a few kilometers from the Sura River, the third tributary of the Volga after the Kama and Oka. The northern outskirts of Shumerli are dissected by shallow ravines, in the south, behind the railway, from west to east stretches a high ridge called the Wreath - in ancient times it was the bank of the Sura. To the south of Venets there is a swampy lowland, cut by the rivers Myslets and Shumerlinka. There are many lakes and oxbow lakes in the lowland, which are filled in the spring with the hollow water of the Sura. The places where the industrial van complex, the chemical plant and the special vehicle plant are located were once swampy. Forests to the west of the city, the Sura river floodplain at the Kumashka junction are state game reserves.

The construction of the Arzamas - Kanash railway was carried out during the difficult years of the First World War for Russia, and the road straightened the path from Moscow to Kazan and further to the industrial Urals. So, in the forests surrounding the Sura, a small station village of Shumerlya appeared not far from its right bank.

With the commissioning of the railway line, the platform of the railway station became the center of attraction for residents of the station settlement and the village of Shumerlya. Almost all of their small population flocked here on holidays, and in general in their free time, especially in the evenings. In the station park, on the "patch", meetings of the Sumerlins took place on the days of the revolutionary holidays. However, in the early 1920s, the village of Shumerlya was just a handful of wooden houses located on a single Vokzalnaya street. It stretched along the railway from the place where the special car plant now stands, to the territory now occupied by the grain receiving center. The first Sumerlin bakery (privately owned), which arose during the construction of the railway, was adjacent to Vokzalnaya Street.

In 1920 there were 500 inhabitants in the village. At first, there were no schools in the village. The children had to either study with private individuals, or go to the village of Shumerlya. Old-timers recall that they studied in a dugout located near the railway line opposite the current special vans combine. They were taught by a private teacher - the wife of a road master.

In the fall of 1921, the Administration of the Moscow-Kazan Railway opened an elementary school at the Shumerlya station. There was no school building yet. Pupils of the first grade studied in the station building, other classes - in the club of the railway forestry committee.

Then the building of a former private bakery, located behind the railway, opposite the current special car plant, was adapted for the school. The teachers in the first school of the railway settlement at different times worked A.G. Shimlyaev, A. S. Chernova, N. M. Makarov, V. I, Novikova, M. S. Afanasyeva, A. P. Kochetkov. In general, the teachers changed frequently.

All retail outlets of those years were concentrated on Vokzalnaya Street - the Zheleskoma store, the Khodarsky general store, and private shops.

As the station settlement expanded, other streets appeared. In the early years, they were unnamed and were called the first, second, third, etc. lines. Nowadays these are Karl Marx, Shcherbakov, Internatsionalnaya and others streets. The growth of Shumerli as a village, and then a city, was facilitated by certain economic prerequisites, as well as the peculiarities of its geographical location. The presence of large forests, a railway and the proximity of a floating river gave impetus to the construction of its first industrial enterprises. One of them, however, at first very weak was "Zhelesk", which procured firewood, sleepers and other forest materials for the needs of railway transport.

In the late 1920s. the construction of a large plant for the production of tanning extract, which received the name "Bolshevik", began. At the end of 1924 a club was built in the village. A drama club began to operate in the club, the first station cinema installation was mounted.

In 1926, in the vicinity of the Shumerlya station, a timber industry partnership "Truzhenik" was organized. The artel began to produce sawn timber. In 1928, the first electric bulbs in the village were lit by the engine of this artel.

The timber industry artel "Truzhenik" eventually became the base of the "Kombaindetal" plant, later transformed into a woodworking one, then - into a machine-building plant. Nowadays it is a large modern enterprise - the Sumerlinsky plant of special vehicles.

In the years of the pre-war five-year plans, such enterprises as timber-bonded and timber-logging factories, a bakery of the People's Commissariat of Trade of the Chechen Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, a gortop, and the Krasny Oktyabr fishing artel arose in Sumerla. Kvass and brick factories were put into operation. In 1935, a printing house was put into operation, and a regional newspaper began to be printed in Shumerla.

During the years of the first five-year plans, much was done to satisfy the cultural and everyday needs of the working people. Much attention was paid to housing construction. At that time, mainly small two-story wooden houses were built. In those years, there were no well-maintained roads, no sidewalks, or street lighting in the city. Only the road to Yadrin was considered truly passable, while the rest of the roads were difficult to pass.

Trade developed. In 1935, there were 10 shops and 12 stalls in the village. There were three canteens: a tanning extract plant, a woodworking plant and a timber industry enterprise. There were three artisanal bakeries.

In 1930, a seven-year school was opened in the village, which was then called FZS - factory seven-year school. The first director of the FZS was V.N. Ivanov. A year later, the school moved to a two-story building of a residential settlement of furniture makers on the street. MOPR, and in the fall of 1932 moved to a newly built two-story wooden school building. In 1937 the building of secondary school No. 3 was put into operation, in 1940 a building was built, which now houses the school No. 1.

In the 30s, the Bolshevik club appeared - a plant for tanning extracts. Only in 1939 the building of the now existing club "Voskhod" was put into operation. In the clubs there were amateur art circles, there were brass bands.

The first dispensary in Sumerla opened in 1930 on the territory of a woodworking plant. P.I. worked as a doctor. Ilyin.

In 1937 the settlement was transformed into a city. It already had almost 15 thousand inhabitants. At the same time, the process of forming national cadres was underway. By 1940, in Sumerla, they accounted for 40% of qualified specialists.
