Wimar is one of the most beautiful, exciting and atmospheric cities in modern Germany. Few travelers know that earlier this territory belonged to the Swedish state, and was also part of the so-called "Hanseatic" Union. That is why the architecture of the city retained the peculiarities of several cultures united under the general start. All this has been preserved in the old town - a special area, which since 2002 is under the protection of UNESCO.

The city is distinguished by its extremely photoginity. Even if you do not have professional knowledge in the field of photography, beautiful pictures from the trip you will definitely bring. Old Town and its surroundings. Let's start with those moments that can be viewed on your own and free. This list includes the old town, which is the heart of Wismar. Here, for example, the largest area of \u200b\u200bMiddle Ages is located - the market square. Perhaps earlier there were the largest markets here, but now the main attractions are somewhat different objects.

One of them is Wasserkunst Well, whose history began in 1602. It is decorated with mosaic patterns, and once people used it as a source drinking water. Nearby are the vintage buildings "Red Swede" (Alterschwede) and the Town Hall. You can also visit from 10 am and 18 pm, a special historical exhibition, the cost of which will be 2 euros from an adult and 1 euro from the child.

MuseumSchabbellhaus.. Another museum of the city history, which is located in the Renaissance Brewery Building (Schabbellhaus), located near the Church of St. Nicholas.

Church of St. Nicholas. Unique architectural monumentwho survived the second world War, waiting for all visitors for 2 euro fee. In the remaining time, the museum operates from 11 am and until 16 o'clock in the afternoon.

Spire of the Church of St. Mary. The spire is all that remained from the once beautiful and majestic building. On the lower floor there is a museum, which tells about the technology of building ancient churches. You can visit the exhibition from 10 am and 18 pm from April to October. Today's story for those who passed military service in Wismar.

We live in Wismar since 1998 and watched how the territory of the former military unit changed. But the gearbox did not change at this time, except that the gate disappeared, blunting passage inside the former military unit.

Preserved and fence along the road leading inland territory.

To the right of the road building with columns. Outwardly, it has changed little, and inside the repair goes in full swing - the technical museum will open in the fall here.

View of the same building on the reverse side. It can be noted that the repair goes only in the central building and one wing. Another wing until they put in order

On it we detected the remaining bas-relief from the previous time

From here you can see the blue building of Vismar shipyard

Next to the future technical museum of the building of the former barracks. A couple of years ago it was repaired, attached balconies and now this is a nursing home.

Such a panoramic photo of this house was placed in the local newspaper Wismar-Zeitung

The field next to the former barracks built up with small houses

Now this area is calledKasernenhof. And the inhabitants still call him Russenberg.

For further inspection, we will return to the road coming from the checkpoint. Men to the barracks turned left and see a long building. As far as we understand, these are former garages or warehouses

Behind them a brick house. It is now a kindergarten.

Right from him the road to the zoo (Tierpark)

And the left overlooks the shipyard. As far as we understand, this track led earlier to the glass store. When we arrived in Wimar, the glass was still standing. Several years ago she was demolished

We do not turn into the zoo, but we go straight ( kindergarten It remained in our back). Go to the former polygon. Mound large building (it looks like a big barn). Now they spend any events like concerts of rock bands, festivals, etc.

Next to him a new building. It refers to the park, which in 2002 was built on the site of the former landfill.

Opposite this building parking for cars. The former barracks can be seen

And this is the park itself

Called BurgerPark. On the one hand, it borders with the zoo (the entrance to the zoo now has and from here). A small piece of a new park also occupy the beasts.

A few more photos in addition to the story. We did them in October 2014.

The technical museum has long opened and works successfully. This year there was an exhibition "Inheritance Soviet army in Germany". The exhibition seemed not too interesting to us ... They demolished the wing of the building, on which we photographed the bas-relief (tank on the background of the star). But it seems to be a bas-relief itself. The arrangement of the territory continues. The checkpoint recently had a completely abandoned look, and now it has so much. Inserted new windows and doors, repaired the gate.

Now put in order

We were asked whether the building of the commandant was preserved. Since we do not know where it was exactly, we will show all the buildings that are now nearby.

This building is directly opposite the checkpoint, but this is exactly the new building.

Climb up Lubsche Strasse. That's all the buildings that stand opposite the former military unit.

Now let's go back to the checkpoint and we will move down the street.

Directly opposite are two houses

Here they are closer

Nearby there are still such houses.

Further another couple of residential buildings and a large store of building materials OBI, and behind him intersection

Now a couple of photos that were asked to show in the comments

One of the oldest hospital buildings. Here is now located the hospital (the fact that Kinderklinik was described in the comments)

Former officers at home on Tschaikowskistraße (Now ordinary residential dohma). Only two houses are visible, but all three houses have been preserved.

The garrison house of officers who was nearby, no longer. This building was demolished 18 years ago. In his place built a new one - there are apartments for students and a hotel. This place is the corner of Tschaikowskistraße and Lübschestraße

And the entrance itself at number 46

If someone has old photos of the territory of the military unit or residential buildings, we are ready to put them here.

History

The exact date of the occurrence of the settlement called Wimar and the roots of this name are unknown, although the sound of this word is consonant slavic languages. The Mecklenburg settlement near Vismar is often identified with the Grand House - the city of encrypses from medieval chronicles:

"And the prince of Vandal, the rules of the Slavs, going throughout the north, east and the west of the sea and earth, many lands on the coast of the sea conquering and the peoples conquer themselves, returned to the Great (Grand) ..."

In the same place in Vigigrad - the city of Bodrich, a Rurik appeared for the first time with two brothers.

Archaeologists suggest that Vigigrad was founded in the VII century. In the Ioamakh chronicle, "Great Grad" was located on the seashore.

It is known that in 1293, the city of Wimar together with Lomplek and Rostock organized a trade ganzia union. From 1257 to 1358, the city served as the residence of the princes of Mecklenburg. In the city 70 times the general meetings were held, on which the issues of the Union were solved. However, after the opening of America trading routes Disposed to the West, and Gansa ceased to exist. From this time, the city loses its value. The economic decline tried the thirty-year war. According to the Westphalian world of 1648, Wimar has departed under the power of Sweden, which considered the city as its "largest fortress in Europe."

In 1803, Sweden laid the city and gave the Supreme Power of Mecklenburg for 1.258,000 Reystaler, retaining the right, return the city in 100 years. Based on the Rights of Sweden, the city of Wismar was not included in meklenburg until 1897. In 1903, Sweden finally refused his rights. WiMar still retained several old laws of "urban liberties", including the right to have its own flag.

The city in which the plants of the Aviation Firm "Dorne" were very affected by the bombing of the allies to the second world war. Nevertheless, the city center entered the UNESCO list in 2002 as a world cultural heritage.

During the years of the GDR, the city was considered as a second largest marine harbor of the state specializing in shipment of potash fertilizers.

sights

Market Square

Building "Old Swede"

The photo is visible to the brick "old Swede", built in 1380. The old Swede received its name only in 1878, when a hotel was opened in it.

This is the largest market square in the size of 100100 m. On it in 1602, the 12-graded pavilion, made in the style of the Dutch Renaissance, was installed according to the drawings. Pavilion, called Wasserkunst, has served as a transfer point, which was supplied with water 220 residential and 16 public buildings. This pavilion, along with the Church of St. Mary, is attributed to the most important sights of the city.

Before the war belonged to the number of the largest North-German churches made in the style of brick gothic. Her architect, Johann Grotto, took the three-fruined basilica of Mary's church in Lübeck for a sample. In April 1945 during the bombing, the main building was very damaged. The ruins were finally blown in 1960. Only a high tower (81 m) remained from the church, on which 9 bells of the XVI-XVII centuries hang. Here in 1647, a clock with a dial of 55 m was installed, which are four of 20 chorals in four times a day.

Here you have a lot of photos from the beautiful german city Wismar, in which I constantly dwell, he is closest to my village.

Wismar (Wismar) is a port city of land subordination on the Baltic Sea in Germany (Land Mecklenburg - Front Pomerania). As one of the first and most prosperous cities of Hansees is proud of the historical center with mansions and temples in the style of brick gothic, which is protected by UNESCO.

2. Population there is 44397 people, according to the 2010 census

3. Wimar arose as a settlement of Polabsky Slavs, probably called Vishemir. In the I-th half of the XIII century received the rights of the city. To protect against marine robbers, in 1259, a union was concluded with a sprout and lubeje, from which Ganza grew up. In the Middle Ages, Wimar specialized in the trading of herring and beer, in addition, the cloth was made here. Questions relating to the Hanseatic Union were solved on general meetings residents.

4. Wismar still retained such relics of previous free cities, as the right to have their own flag. From 1257 to 1358, the city served as the residence of the princes of Mecklenburg. The black death of 1376 twisted in it a significant part of the population. Like other cities of Hanza, Wismar began to lose their forced importance after the opening of America, when trading tracks shifted to the Atlantic.

5. The economic decline tried the thirty-year war. According to the Westphalian world of 1648, Wimar entered the Swedish Pomerania and turned into the largest fortress of the Swedes on the southern shore of the Baltic.

6. In 1803, Sweden laid the city of Dukes of Mecklenburg for 1258,000 Reichstarters, retaining the right to return it in 100 years. Although Wormar de facto later entered the German Empire, the Swedish authorities did not recognize the loss of rights to him until 1903.

7. The city in which the plants of the Aviation Firm Dornery were located, suffered severely from the bombing of the allies to the second world war. During the years of GDR Wismar was considered as a second largest (after Rostock) the marine harbor of the state. In particular, potash fertilizers were transported through his port.

8. Historical centers of Wismar and neighboring Stralsund in 2002 were delivered under the protection of UNESCO as a world cultural heritage.

9. And in general, it's very cute here and cozy

10. The Vismarian Church of the Virgin Mary before the war belonged to the number of the largest North-German churches in the style of brick gothic. Here in 1647 there were clocks with a dial size of 5 × 5 m, which four of 20 choralov perform four times a day.

15. Seagull. Seagulls are not dirty here, they can be approached almost close

17. Jednie went to the Russian-speaking colleagues to the fish diner, to bite Fishbrothanov, we make an order, carrying up, and because of the push, the woman of the Caucasian appearance, suddenly, in the purest Russian language, it is responsible for us that it has the most delicious, tips here Better to order. I got acquainted with her, it turned out that she was from North Ossetia, the Russian woman is shorter. Itself prepares everything in his cafe, and she has the most acceptable prices. Now only there we will eat at leisure.

There is nothing particularly nothing (initially planned to spend there all day), I looked at the map and saw nearby quite large town of Wimar.

"Some kind of familiar name", I thought. Photography, World Heritage Lists, UNESCO, History of the Hanseatic Union and other nonsense, who has fallen in my memory, began to emerge in the head. So, there should be a way!

As it turned out later, I did not lose anyhow: Vimar is one of the most beautiful cities in Northern Germany, which for some amazing reasons is almost unknown to a wide range of travelers. Everyone consider to visit Lubeck, Hamburg or the same sprout, although they cannot even come close to the Wismarr in the beauty of the old city, its size and total all-time atmosphere of one of the medieval centers of powerful ganza!

Wismar, like many cities of this region, was founded by Western Slavic tribes, which in the 12th - 13th centuries managed to conquer more developed and organized German peoples. Already in the 1st half, the city has passed the possession of the ancestors of modern Germans, and several decades later concluded the Union with the Nearby Lykes and Rostock, providing for joint protection against marine robbers. It was from this union ganza rose.

After loss Hanseatic Soyuz His influence Vimar was alternately under the rule of the Swedes, Danes and the Swedes again. It is this northern people (Swedes) in the 16th century surrounded Warmar with the most powerful defensive fortifications throughout Europe: the city was protected by about 700 guns installed on numerous bastions.

One moment is associated with Wismarr, which will, no doubt, will be of interest to residents of Germany and its frequent guests. I am sure that you all know the network of shopping centers "Karstadt": This is one of the largest and oldest trade chains of Germany, which is, perhaps, in any more or less large city in the country. But it was in Wisman in 1881, 25-year-old Rudolf Carstadt began his successful business by opening the first store here.

The old town and medieval buildings begin literally a few hundred meters from the railway station. Just have time to get a camera, as wonderful half-timbered buildings appear before your eyes.

There is also a temple of St. Nicholas, built in the 14th century. Its central oil rises 37 meters above the Earth, which makes this temple one of the largest in Germany. The experienced travelers claim that the interior of the temple of St. Nicholas is characterized by special beauty and non-standard opportunities for visitors (it is proposed to rise to the attic and take a look away from there to the tiny silhouettes of people), but I, unfortunately, did not have time to come before it is closed. But I managed to look at it in the night light.

The Visman Center permeates the tiny river Mülenbach, the embankments of which look exactly like with pictures about the lives of provincial European cities.

One of the bridges through Mülenbach is decorated with extremely cute piglets. So I want to drag someone from them with you.

The heart of the old city is a market square (just it can be seen on the title image of this post). It's just a pearl of medieval architecture and paradise for lovers of similar attractions! In many ways, thanks to the architectural ensemble of Wismar Market Square and was listed cultural heritage UNESCO.

The most famous building of the Market Square and Total Wismar - the Old Swede. The building from the Red Brick, built in 1380, acquired his current name only at the end of the 19th century, when the eponymed hotel opened in it.

To the left of the "Old Swede" is no less interesting building, but without such a memorable name.

Another symbol of the city is a water pavilion. Built at the end of the 16th century, he already gave water into 220 nearby houses and a half dozen public columns. Residents of other cities have jealously envied the Viriants and silently drew water from wells.

Practically exhaustive panorama of the city.

The streets of old wismar are wonderful. There is an excellent relaxing atmosphere, there is no crowd of tourists, but I want to move exclusively in the city. So as not to miss the opportunity to see every trifle, every detail. After all, each brick in the wall of the at home, each cobblestone wide pavement - everything is literally saturated with the glorious centuries-old history of these places. And you feel it. And it seems that, together with the ringing of church bells, a rich merchant or a harsh sailor will come out due to the corner; Looking into the courtyard you will see how children in linen pants chase chickens, and then run away from a crushing mother. In Wismar, you understand that in order to travel in the past, scientists do not need to be inventing the time car - just just take care of the cultural wealth that your people have in your city or country. And then your children and grandchildren will be able to go to visit your time after decades, and the future generation, bypassing the century, will have the opportunity to see the world as you saw him.

Unfortunately, not always people appreciate what is at their disposal. The most important example is the Vismar Church of the Virgin Mary. Over the centuries, she was the largest temple in the entire Baltic region and one of brightest examples Severogherman brick gothic. During its existence, it became a full-fledged symbol of Wismar and a landmark for sailors, as it was towering over all the city.

During World War II, several bombs landed in the church building. Destruction was not too serious, so after the end of the war, none of the citizens doubted that soon the Church of the Virgin Mary would restore.

Years passed, but the temple was stood in ruins - neither the city nor state bodies were restored. And so, in 1960, an order came from Berlin from the leadership of the Socialist Party: Church to blow up, retaining only the bell tower. The official justification of these monstrous actions was absolutely ridiculous: partially destroyed temple walls could damage the neighboring houses and harm to playing near children. By the way, according to the calculations of builders, the costs of full recovery were simply ridiculous, and would take this process only 3 years, provided that there would be only 20 people there!

In the morning, on August 6, 1960, the area around the church of the Virgin Mary was held, he was prepared for subversive work. The temple took place in several stages: so strong turned out to be "dangerous" walls.

After the end of the work, the ruins of the Church were taken out, and the bricks were sent for processing - after some time they were used in the production of plates for panel high-rise buildings.

After the combination of Germany, the foundation was built here, a completely repeating form of a once beautiful temple. In the GDR at this place was ... Car parking. Especially blasphemous it looks like, if we consider that in the walls of the Church of the Virgin Mary at different times the most outstanding residents of the city were buried - those who gave Vismaru in their lives very and very much.

Several urban parts.

Near some houses still preserved scrapers, helping to consider dirt from shoes before entering residential premises.

Soon I already have a whole collection of highly artistic covers from hatches and have to devote to them a separate post.

On one of the houses I was noticed by an old advertising plate. Of particular interest is the way of writing hours of work: from half of the fifth to half of the seventh.

Whatever beautiful Wismar was not, it does not leave the feeling that the eastern part of Germany is the poorer of their western brother. This can be seen in the historic center: part of the buildings is in depressing condition.

However, all the disadvantages of Wisman can be forgiven - this is really one of the coolest cities in Northern Germany!

True, there is another nuance, which I remember pretty strongly: the house is sorrow. I do not know if I was "lucky", or all the patients returned to the clinic at that time, but during the walk I constantly came across people with various mental disabilities. And if you consider that in general, the random passers-by in the city was extremely small, this situation strained a little. However, in the late afternoon they disappeared somewhere.

Finally, one instructive story.

As I said, I went absolutely spontaneously to Wismar, and during all this turmoil completely forgot to see the reverse schedule. However, I came to the station not so late - on the clock was only half of the seventh. Here it is not to transfer the entire cascade of emotions, which I experienced when I learned that I could arrive in Hamburg only two more nights! And this is despite the fact that usually the road takes less than 2 hours. The most discerning was that I was literally late for a couple of minutes for a transplant to another train, which painted the prospects for many hours of waiting in some kind of railway village.

What to do? I handed myself in the hands of fate and went to this village. And then a miracle happened! For the first time in life I was grateful for public transport It has the property is late. My train was delayed to Hamburg for 7 minutes, which gave me the opportunity to have time for him and not meet midnight somewhere in the midst of fields and railways.

Summing up: I definitely recommend Warmar to all travelers. He gives the most complete picture of how medieval cities around the Baltic Sea looked, and the attractions of the historic center with interest would have enough for a whole day of wandering around the narrow streets.

How to get:
Most big citiesWith which there is a direct railway message - Rostock and Schwerin. From Hamburg will have to get with one transplant in Schwerine or the very village called Bad Kleinen.
