Beijing is the capital. It is one of the four cities under the central government of the PRC. It is considered the third most populous city in the world.

Located in East Asia, in the northeastern part of China, 150 km west of the Bohaiwan Bay, which belongs to the Yellow Sea. The Russian map of Beijing demonstrates that the city is a key transport route connecting the northern provinces of the country with the rest. Despite its considerable size, Beijing is considered the political and cultural center of China rather than the economic and industrial center.

Beijing on the map of China: geography, nature and climate

Beijing covers an area of 16 801 km ², thus being the third city in terms of this indicator, not only in the country, but throughout the world. It stretches for 170 km from north to south, and almost 150 km from west to east. Beijing on the map of China is located in an enclave inside Hebei province, only in the east it has 2 small (about 20 and 30 km, respectively) sections of the border with Tianjin, which is another city of central subordination. The territory of Beijing is divided into 14 districts and 2 counties. However, less than 5% of the capital's population lives in the 4 northern districts and counties, which together occupy half of the city's area.

The map of Beijing with streets clearly demonstrates the main distinguishing feature of the city - a clear chess structure combined with the presence of 6 ring roads. However, these roads are inscribed in the cross-cutting nature of the city and have the shape of truncated rectangles. This structure of the city is facilitated by its flat location. The maximum height of its central regions does not exceed 43 meters above sea level. But in the sparsely populated northern and northwestern part of the city, mountain ranges and ridges begin. The highest point of Beijing - Dongling Mountain (2303 m) is located here.

Despite the fact that Beijing is located away from the largest rivers of the country, a number of deep rivers flow through its territory. The largest of them are the Chaohe, Chaobai, Baihe, Wenyuhe, Beiyunhe and Yongdinghe rivers. However, the most important waterway of the region is the largest and oldest hydraulic structure in the world - the Great Canal, which originates in Beijing and stretches 1,782 km to the south. In addition, the city has several lakes, but almost all of them are of artificial origin. The largest lake in the central part of Beijing - Kunminghu - is about 2.2 km 2, and does not exceed 2 meters in depth.

Beijing climate

Beijing is located at the junction of not only geographic but also climatic regions. In general, the city lies in an area of monsoon continental climate, but human activities significantly affect the weather in the city. Due to soil erosion in northern China, Beijing is prone to regular sandstorms during dry winters. The average summer temperature ranges from 24-28 ° C. At the same time, in winter, the thermometer can drop to -3-5 ° C, however, frosts down to -10-15 ° C are not uncommon. The amount of precipitation in the region is low - about 550 mm per year. Up to 60% of them falls during July and August, and during the three winter months, even 10 mm of precipitation may not fall.

This metropolis is located in the north of China, 102 kilometers from the Bohai Bay (Yellow Sea). In the north, west and south, Beijing borders on the Hebei province, and on the east it is adjacent to the city of Tianjin. Large transport hubs for land and air transport are concentrated in Beijing. Highways, railways pass through it, and in the capital itself there are 4 bus stations and 2 airports, one of which accepts international flights.

Coordinates: 39 ° 56 ′ N NS. 116 ° 24 ′ E etc.

Square: 16,410.54 square kilometers.

Height above sea level: 20-60 meters.

Major rivers: Yongding, Chaobai and the Northern Channel.

Description of city districts

Beijing is divided into 14 districts and 2 counties.

The relief on the territory of the capital is flat; within the city you can find only 3 hills. There are several ring roads in Beijing. In fact, they form a rectangular shape, covering the entire area of the city, they serve as an excellent way of getting around.

Behind the ring roads is one of the most memorable and preserved buildings - the Great Wall of China. It was visited by tourists from all over the world.

In 2010, Xuanwu was merged with Xicheng, and Chongwen with Dongcheng. But in this article, we used the old, more familiar division, according to which Beijing has 8 urban districts, 6 rural districts and 2 counties.

Tourist areas

The four central districts are located within the ring roads. In their form, they have retained the shade of the past. Here you can see a lot of attractions, houses, restaurants and entertainment venues. In order not to get lost in the city, use the map of Beijing in Russian (presented above).

Less interesting places for tourism

It is worth visiting this place during a visit to the Great Wall of China, and there is no point in planning a trip on purpose, since there is practically nothing remarkable here.

Shijingshan
Located west of the central part of the city. The Xishan Mountains (Western Hills) are located here.

Shijingshan District

Haidian

Haidian District

Fengtai

It occupies the south and west of the capital. The western railway station, the rural part of the city and the distant suburbs are located here.

Fengtai District

The rest of the administrative units are located far from the city center:

  • Tongzhou
  • northern Changping and Shunyi
  • western and southern Mentougou, Fangshan, Daxing
  • rural areas - Yanqing, Huairou, Miyun and Pinggu

Beijing holds a special place among tourists from all over the world. 140 million Chinese tourists and more than 4 million foreigners come here annually.
